COVERGIRL'S Clump Crusher Mascara Video!

One of my all-time most asked questions is "what mascara do you recommend" and while I do have my favorites there are always new formulations coming out that never cease to amaze me!  When COVERGIRL asked me to review and do a video about their new LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara I was happy to do so.  I believe you don't always have to pay a lot of money for great makeup results and at less than $10 this is a great option for someone on a budget.  Well, at ANY budget I can tell you that I fell in love with it instantly.  Look at the before and after picture here on my model and Fashion/Beauty blogger Giselle Ugarte from Sprintinginstilettos.com - and NO we didn't use fake lashes at all!

We then shot this video (all in Spanish) in which I give you my favorite tips for awesome lashes.  Giselle's are a bit straight and have a tendency to fall downward.  My tricks as shown in the video are here:
-Make sure your lashes are clean of any oils/makeup/old mascara -this weighs them down
-Curl them- with a curler, spoon or however you prefer but curl them!
-Apply a very light coat of mascara- as a rule of thumb, I clean the wand the first time so as to not get too much product on them.  Let them dry for a few seconds.
-Curl a second time
-Go to town and apply as many coats of LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara -and it won't clump!
-Watch my video for the three directions I recommend you apply it in to get that maximum "fluttery" look!

ENJOY!!

My work on Genesis Rodriguez.

Here's my work on the lovely Génesis Rodríguez which is out on newsstands right now.  She has amazing skin so it was no feat to create the makeup looks for this Cover/editorial.  The cover is all about pink lips to celebrate Valentine's day.  I also used a combination of bronzer and blush on her cheeks and to contour her face.  A little bit of cream eyeliner and she was ready!
The editorial story called for a "Hollywood" movie star look- after all we were shooting right off of Hollywood boulevard.  So the photographer set up a tent and I changed to lips to a deep red and pumped up the eyeliner for a 5 minute change!  Congrats to Génesis who has quite a few Hollywood movies which are about to come out.  One being "Identity Thief" which comes out this Friday.

The best makeup party look- hands down!

I wanted to share some of the looks from a shoot I did recently in which I really concentrated on mixing textures to create a soft, smoky look that anyone could wear.  Here was the first shot of the day, it was a December editorial and the model was wearing a $5,0000+ beaded Herve Leger gown and dripping with diamonds and swarowsky crystals!!
First of all, I wanted the focus to be on the eyes so I toned down her eyebrows with my favorite MAC tinted "Brow Set" in Beguille.  It's like painting subtle highlights on the eyebrow hairs.  Then on the lid I added Shiseido's "Shimmering Cream Eye Color" in  MIST.  The sparkle and slight color brings out the hazel in her eyes.  Then I used Mary Kay's Gel Eyeliner in Jet black applied right at the base (and I mean as thin and close to the root of the lashes as possible.  *This gel eyeliner is awesome and I hope Mary Kay keeps it in their regular line as I believe it is now a "Limited Edition"  Great consistency and easy to apply.  Last with a brush I smudged the liner under the eyes and brought what was left on the brush onto the crease of the eyes.  Just make sure that the line is not visible- it will make the whole look modern and updated.  *Not every smoky eye needs to have a thick winged eyeliner.
I finished off the look by taking Covergirl's "Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer" in Brown bronze and blending it right on the crease and under the eye to bring the whole look together (great quick tip to finish out a smoky eye look)
As far as her lashes go, my model had very straight and hard to curl ones.  So I curled them with a heated curler and then used the Mary Kay Lash Primer followed by Lash Love mascara on top and bottom lashes.

Then, it was all about cheeks and lips.  My model had a round face so I again used Covergirl's "Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer"  to contour her cheeks and temples.  Then I applied Nar's "The Multiple Stick" in Riviera right on top.  I first apply it with my fingers- it will look strong- but then blend it out with a cheek brush and you get the most gorgeous texture.
On the lips?  Just OCC's lip tar in Palest Peach- quick and easy!

Bohemian Chic- my tips in October's Cosmo!

Bohemian Chic makeup and hair.  Makeup by Luis Casco @ Cloutierremix/ Hair Sienree @ Celestine

As seen in this month's Cosmopolitan en Español, here are my tips to achieve this look wich I called "Bohemian Chic"
"To achieve I recommend using a very natural foundation or leave the skin alone if possible.  A tinted moisturizer or mixing a bit of moisturizer with your foundation might be all you need.  On the eyes, use a cream or gel eyeliner by first applying it as close to the root of the lashes as possible.  Use black or gray and then blend the line out with a fluffy brush until you achieve the intensity you are after.  Afterwards apply at least two coats of mascara on top and bottom lashes.
Since the eyes are so neutral and dark I love to use a bit of color on the cheeks so I recommend using a peach colored one- even a cream blush which looks beautiful in the Fall.  Finish the look with a nude lip and you are set to go.
To get this look with the hair, I recommend that you make 5-10 braids throughout your whole head of hair, spray them lightly and if possible, sleep with them.  In the morning, let them go... and you will have this gorgeous texture- super volume and seductive!!

My new cover with Cristian De La Fuente

Here's my "Cosmopolitan Man" cover of actor Cristian de La Fuente.  What a trooper this guy was!  After flying an overnight flight following a week of filming in Mexico City, Cristian flew in early in the morning into LAX and headed immediately to Topanga which was our location for the day.  He was with us all day, worked so professionally with everyone and still managed to leave that day only to sign up for the following day's Malibu Triathlon!  WOW!  The look for the story was all about a fall day in the country.  I wanted to bring out our models bright blue eyes by using a heavy liner all around the eyes then slightly messed it up by using a bit of clear lipgloss on the lids.  That was it!  And our hair genius Sienree added some extensions and that amazing texture for the "fashionable grunge" hairstyle.
