Eva Mendes discusses her Latin roots in June's "W".

Eva Mendes is on the cover of W Magazine’s July 2010 edition, wearing a mustard Miu Miu Fall 2010 dress which was shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.  The shots are cool and modern- there's nothing like a matte red lip right now!

Here is an excerpt from the interview in which Eva discusses her Cuban parents:
“I don’t consider myself a Latin American actress. I was born and raised here, and I have Cuban parents, but for me, I am the new American girl. It’s not only Drew Barrymore and the blond Mid-western girl. This, [pointing to her face] is also what we look like now.”

But don't hate!  I get what she's saying and as far as I'm concerned she is the new American girl who is a mix of all different cultures.   But in my eyes, she is  still a beautiful Latina!

Beauty mood boards

I wanted to share with you a tool that is frequently used backstage at fashion shows and also at many shoots that require a look that tells a story and that is consistent.
Here's a mood board backstage at Betsey Johnson's Fall 2010 show.  Makeup artist Sarah Lucero for Stila said the inspiration was Brigitte Bardot that went perfectly with the "glamourous cowgirl" look of Betsey's clothes this season.
Lucero said  "You'll see a cowboy theme with this ideal of a dirty, dusty, yet confident woman. The skin is very matte, lips are very pale and the intensity is in the eyes. I mean who doesn't want to look like Bardot? I do!"

Basically this mood board is placed all around the makeup area and the head makeup artist usually does a demonstration to their assistants and refers back and forth to the pictures on the mood board.  Sometimes they are not even as obvious as this one-they could have things like birds, flowers or even architecture as the influence that with the designer, the makeup artist fells embodies the look that they've created.

As far as Betsey's show, here are some of the finished looks.  This was a departure for Betsey as she normally favors a strong lip look.

And the makeup she used:
All makeup by Stila. For a flawless complexion, use one step makeup. It's a primer, foundation, concealer and powder all-in-one.  Apply NYX false lashes for a doll-like look. Layer Java, Ebony and Espresso  eye shadow onto lids and blend Dune and Chinois Shadows underneath eyes. Line peepers with kajal eyeliner in Onyx. Smooth convertible color in Gerbera onto cheeks and lips to finish.

Salma in Vanity Fair Spain

Here's a beautiful new cover of Salma in Vanity Fair Spain out this June.  She looks gorgeous- that beautiful lighting shows off her amazing bone structure- how do you like those cheekbones?
Love the colors,etc,etc...
And on a funny note here's Gwen Stefani wearing the same Stella McCartney top on her cover of InStyle back in April this year- who's your fave?
And you have to watch this video shot a few days ago at a press junket.  Watch as poor Salma freaks out when she sees a snake!

Jessica Alba revisits the 70's

Here's a shot of Janice Dickinson from a Versace 1970's campaign and the other is of Jessica Alba in Elle Korea this month.  See the similarity?  The clothes were very late 70's inspired and she looks amazing her makeup could have been a bit cooler but the simplicity of it does work with the over the top clothes and faux hawk.
Watch the video of the shoot in action:
